SA Home Water Rebates

The SA State Government launched the H2OME Rebate Scheme in November 2007.  As part of Water for Good - the State's plan to ensure our water future to 2050, the scheme has been enhanced and extended to include new rebates.

As of the 28th September, 2009, the H2ome Rebate Scheme includes:

Rebates available for approved water efficient products purchased on or after 1st November, 2007 :

Showerheads

A Rebate of $30 is available when you purchase and install a low-flow showerhead.

An average showerhead uses 20 lites of water a minute and a low-flow showerhead (minimum 3 star rated) uses 9 litres of water per minute.

  • It must feature a WELS rating of 3 stars or more
  • for a maximum of 3 showerheads per property
  • is only available for the replacement of your existing showerhead(s).
  • not eligible for new showers in new homes or home extensions.
  • the showerhead must carry a WaterMark approval if connected to SA Water mains supply.
  • if the purchase price is less than $30, a rebate of the actual purchase price will be issued.
  • your original receipt will be required when claiming the rebate.

Dual Flush Toilet

A Rebate of $150 is available for the replacement of a single flush or less water efficient toilet with a new, more efficient toilet suite with a WELS rating of 3 stars or better.

A single flush toilet uses up to 12 litres a flush, which can be reduced to 6 and 3 litre flushes or better with a dual flush.

  • the dual flush toilet needs to be one that uses a maximum of 3 litres for a half flush and a maximum of 6 litres for a full flush.
  • not eligible for new houses or extensions , only for replacement of an old system.
  • for a maximum of 3 toilets per property.
  • for the cost of the toilet suite and can include the plumbing services required for installation.
  • the toilet must carry a WaterMark approval if connected to SA Water mains supply.
  • purchase of toilet on or after 1st November, 2007.
  • must be installed by a licensed plumber.
  • original receipt and a Certificate of Compliance will be required when claiming the rebate.

Washing Machine

A Rebate of $200 is available from 28th September, 2009, if you purchase a new water efficient washing machine.

By choosing a water efficient machine, you can potentially save up to 100 litres per wash.

  • the washing machine needs to have a WELS rating of 4.5 stars or more.
  • is limited to one machine per person to a maximum of $200.
  • it must be purchased, installed and operational for the rebate to be claimed.
  • must be purchased on or after 1st November, 2007.
  • original receipt is required.

Garden Goods

A Rebate of $100 is available from 28th September, 2009.

  • the rebate is limited to one rebate per property, per financial year.
  • purchases do not need to be made in one transaction, collect all your receipts as you will need to provide all original receipt(s).

These Goods include:

  • Smart Approved WaterMark products to concentrate water at the root base for plants/trees
  • Rainwater diverters
  • Tap timers
  • Irrigation system controllers
  • Drip watering system components
  • Soil moisture sensors or rain sensors
  • Outdoor compost bins
  • Soil wetting agents (including crystal, liquid or granule)
  • Organic mulch or compost

Home Water Audit

A Rebate of $100 and $110 for regional areas is available when you engage a registered plumber to do a Home Water Audit.  Plus you will receive up to 2 free low-flow showerheads.  You should notice a saving to your water and energy bills.

You will need to take these few simple steps:

  • phone the SA Water Rebates Hotline on 1800 130 952 and answer a few questions
  • wait for your Home Water Audit information pack to arrive via the post, along with your showerheads
  • phone your local plumber to request a quote and arrange an audit
  • fill in and return your rebate application

Rainwater Tank & Plumbing

A maximum rebate of $1,000 is available, which covers the following:

  • $200 for the purchase of a new or replacement rainwater tank which needs to be plumbed for use to either a toilet or all cold water laundry outlets or hot water service.
  • Up to $600 for plumbing services (including services of a licensed plumber) to connect rainwater to either a toilet or all cold water laundry outlets or hot water service.
  • Up to another $200 extra for additional installation measures.

General terms and conditions:

  • all rainwater tanks need to be 1000 litres or more and plumbed into at least one eligible fixture type.
  • you must obtain a signed Certificate of Compliance from a licensed plumber
  • you will need to provide the original receipt for the rainwater tank and switching device
  • rainwater tanks and plumbing must comply with relevant Australian Standards and any local council requirements that may apply.
  • not available for renovations and extensions from 1st July, 2006.

Hot Water Re-circulator

A Rebate of $150 is available from 28th September, 2009, when you install a re-circulator that is connected to the entire heated water system. 

  • goods must be purchased on or after 28th September, 2009.
  • a licensed plumber must be used and provide an itemised invoice.
  • you must obtain a signed Certificate of Compliance from a licensed plumber.
  • original receipts will be required.
  • plumbing work and associated costs are not eligible for a rebate - rebate applies to unit only!

Pool Covers & Cover Rollers

A rebate of up to $200 is available from September 2009, when you purchase a pool/spa cover and was installed by 23rd October, 2006.

  • the cover must be a Smart Approved WaterMark product.
  • the cover must be a minimum of 400 micron and be UV stabilised.
  • Solar blankets are eligible provided they meet terms and conditions.
  • only one rebate per property.
